New SOTBMusic: Mike Melinoe Returns with Oo

Mike Melinoe starts out his latest project with a lot of bass, a little bit of oral, and menacing lyricism. A hell of a way to start, yes, but it sets up what unfolds over the rest of the 25-minute project, Oo. On this one, we find Mike battling against himself and others for a piece of clarity and peace of mind.

I’ve compared Mike to Danny Brown a lot over the past few years, and that comparison is apt here as well. However, there’s a lot of originality within those similarities that keep me nodding my head and catching his lyricism. Mike never straight apes artists like Danny (and here, Kid Cudi), instead using their map to guide his own path. He’s got a command over the beats with his trippy lyrics and wordplay, and his manipulation of his vocals (either through mechanics or mechanical means), he gives us a project that spans several genres but has its roots deeply entranced in hip-hop. Check the project out below (it’s worth it and a dense listen) and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
