New SOTBMusic: Verze Drops the Jay and Tells Us What He Wants in New Visuals

A sign of a motivated artist is knowing when they need to evolve.

I knew that I needed to evolve past no-fi in order to grow, and I recommend other artists evolve past what they're known for, lest they find themselves in a rut. Thus is the case of Verze. The former Jay Verze, now 23, has switched his name and re-branded himself as an artist and as a person. That growth is shown throughout the lyrics and the accompanying visuals for "What I Want," the first single from his upcoming EP.

What stands out to me on this one is the fact that Verze is more melodic. His bars are still there, but he's playing around with his vocals more. The somewhat "radio-ready" aspect of this track is an underlying factor as to why I like it. It contains the same grit and determination that Verze has been known for since he first appeared on SpeedontheBeat.com, but it's more polished, more focused.

Verze is prepping to drop his debut under his new name, Verze: Volume 1, on Friday. I'll definitely be on the lookout for that, as you should be. Check out "What I Want" below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
