The Orioles open the 2017 season with a dramatic 3-2 win in extra innings versus their bitter rival, the Toronto Blue Jays. After having a bit of a pitcher's duel through the first 9, Mark Trumbo decided to keep calm and go jumbo in the bottom of the 11th inning. I was on my way home listening to the game, old-school style, and pumped my fist triumphantly when I heard the call of Trumbo's first homer of the season.

It was a great game with lots of moments for both teams to crack things open. Fortunately for the pitching staffs, no one decided to run up the score this go-around. However, considering the fireworks these two teams have when they meet, no one should be surprised if tomorrow's game gets wild and wacky quickly. But, on the same token, the Orioles and Blue Jays have each other's number. And when you have Manny Machado at third, low-scoring affairs with not many extra base hits are just as likely.

All in all, we're in for a great year. These are exciting times we live in and with the return of baseball, life gets a bit simpler for everyone involved. See, with baseball, you can round up some buddies, head to a bar/someone's house, and just zone out and root for the home team for a few hours. Basketball, it never did that for me--except during the NCAA tourneys. Waxing aside, the Orioles are now 1-0 and keep their Opening Day win streak alive.

The Orioles square up against the Blue Jays again tomorrow.
