A few years back, DMV native PHZ-Sicks had a project, The Moment, that was named as one of 2DopeBoyz's best mixtapes of 2013. Since then, the artist has been busy with his band RedRoom and working on his own craft. Today's track, "Hurts," is the product of that perfection.
Slated to appear on his upcoming Good Day, Greater Tomorrow project, the track--co-produced by PHZ-Sicks on the horns and arrangement and Makiah Beats on the guitar and the trap instrumental feel--is inspirational while not falling into the tropes of "traditional" inspiration-based songs. It's more along the lines of something you'd get from a Big K.R.I.T. than just a "keep your head up, chum"-type of track, in that the combination of sounds creates an atmosphere for PHZ-Sicks to double-time and hope that his successes hurt those who doubted him in past experiences/past lives.
PHZ-Sicks himself stated that the "first few lines of the song deal with self-doubt due to [personal thoughts and those of others]." Those opinions led him "through a dark place of self-discovery," one that has given him the confidence to move on and further his craft. If "Hurts" is any indication, Good Day, Greater Tomorrow may make its way onto some more Top Projects lists by year's end.
